New Home, Now What?- Moving Tips Part 2

moving tips

Among the chaos of packing your belongings as you prepare to move into your new home, your focus is likely on getting to your destination and nothing more. Although it takes a lot of planning and determination to pack up all of your belongings as you prepare to move, there is one more task left to do that could save you a lot of time and money- pack an essentials box.

What is An Essentials Box?

An essentials box is a box that contains all the things you need to make a smooth transition into your new home. In other words, this is your first night’s survival box for the big move-in day.

Why Do I Need One?

The essentials box is like a safety raft for those just in case moments when you are finally all moved in, and everything is not exactly in place. Consider this box a gift to yourself when you can’t stand to lift another box or move another piece of furniture.

What Goes into An Essentials Box?

All the essentials of course! The list includes everything from toiletries, bedding, chargers, clothes, dishes, snacks, blankets, and for those with pets, their food bowls and other items. Nothing is like being prepared than not!

  • Toiletries and Bathroom Items

Unfortunately, homes do not come pre-stocked with the things you need. Be sure to pack a roll of toilet paper or two and other bathroom essentials to help you settle in.  Here is a list of a few things you might want to pack:

  • Shoes

  • Kitchen items

It may take a few days for you to completely settle in and eating out every day for all or most of your meals can add up faster than you might think. Pack items for basic meals to help cut the cost of eating out. Here is a list of a few things you might want to pack:
